The NBDE Part I and NBDE Part II are conducted to assist state boards to determine qualification of a dentist who is seeking licensure to practice within the board’s jurisdiction. The purpose of NBDE is to ensure that each candidate has the required level of knowledge and skill to practice dentistry in a safe and responsible manner. The examinations tests the ability of a dentist to understand important information from the biomedical and dental sciences, and their ability for application of knowledge in a problem-solving context.
The Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) administers NBDE. But all applications for NBDE are processed by American Dental Association’s testing services wing.
NBDE part 1 is usually taken after first two years of Dentistry in the US and part after finishing the full four year learning period.
