Pattern and Syllabus
NBDE part I has 400 multiple-choice questions emphasizing basic sciences:
NBDE is a lengthy examination which may last up to eight hours including breaks. The exam is done in two sets of 200 questions with around three and half hours for each section. A break between the section for not more than one hour is allowed.
NBDE part II requires two days and focuses on clinical dental topics:
- Operative Dentistry
- Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/Pain Control
- Oral Diagnosis
- Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry
- Patient Management, including Behavioral Science, Dental Public Health and Occupational Safety
On day 1, as with part 1 of test, it will be a 400 questions MCQ type, timing at around 7 hours. An hour for lunch break (optional) can be taken after first section of 200 questions (3.5 hours).
Day 2 will be a three and half hour session dealing with a hundred patient case problems.
